History
The Bar Yacht Club was established in London in about 1937, and was granted a special ensign in 1956. Bar is the collective name given to those lawyers known as barristers who are qualified to plead in the higher courts. The emblem is a roll of parchment tied with red tape. In Britain ‘red tape’ is a phrase for annoying and unnecessary rules and regulations. It is a reference to the red tape (which is actually pink) used by government offices to tie up bundles of papers.
