History
The Grand Traverse Yacht Club was formed in 1960 as a small boat sailing club with Lightning class sailboats as the predominate class. Racing is still the primary focus of the club with PHRF competition on Wednesday and Interlake/Laser one-design races on Tuesday and Thursday nights. The GTYC also hosts weekend regattas that attract boats from all over the Midwest. The general membership fleet is composed of sailors and powerboaters who cruise throughout the Great Lakes and beyond. The GTYC promotes youth sailing programs through its partnership with Traverse Area Community Sailing (TACS). The GTYC clubhouse is open to members all year for a variety of social activities and non-exclusive rentals.
