History
Opened in 1972, Wanlip Sailing Club is an 11 acre lake just North of Leicester. We have a clubhouse with separate male and female changing rooms, as well as a fully stocked bar, and catering facilities. There is ample car and boat parking, and boats can be rigged on the foreshore. Safety Boat cover is usually available on Saturdays and Sundays. Safety Boats are accessible for club members to provide their own cover at other times. At no time is it recommended to sail without providing adequate safety cover. The club organises racing on Sundays and an extensive programme of race series is available to members. Social sailing takes place on Saturdays all year round and Wednesdays during the summer. Visitors are also welcome to try out our lake, please contact a committee member to arrange access and safety cover in advance. Although the Club is a not a recognised RYA training centre we do provide sailing assistance through crewing and helming for adults and young people wishing to improve their sailing skills. We also run a thoery course, 'Introuction to Sailing', in the spring with practical follow up sessions. For children there is Wanlip Wet and Wild once a month throughout the summer where children learn the basics and have fun!
