History
The BSC was founded in 1886, it’s current membership is approximately 1,300. Although there is activity throughout the year, it is concentrated over the holiday periods, and July & August as the majority of members live on the mainland. There are 250 cadets (10-18) and 62 junior cadets (6-9). We are an RYA Training Centre – the Rear Commodore (Sailing) is the Principal and the full-time Secretary (SI, racing coach, advanced instructor, powerboat trainer, SRC assessor) is the Chief Instructor. We run the full range of powerboat courses throughout the season, and during July & August a series of courses (2 for cadets & 4 for junior cadets) covering the Youth Sailing syllabus.
