History
The Club was originally formed by staff of the National Westminster Bank Group but is now independent and has an open membership policy. Unlike some other clubs, Portcullis provides members with two yachts, based in Portsmouth harbour, and events for members to join as a group. This allows people who do not own a boat to participate in the sport of yachting and to gain sailing experience. The Club currently owns two yachts which are available to charter at attractive rates: Wenimbi, a Maxi 1000, and Surveyor, a Sigma 33. Members are able to choose how often they wish to sail, and pay their share of the charter rates when they plan to sail. Members are encouraged to undertake the basic winter maintenance tasks – this helps keep our running costs down and deepens members’ sailing knowledge. he Club is not a sailing school however we help members, whether novice or experienced, to attend various RYA Courses when needed. Informal training and experience can be gained at many of the Club events and cruises.
